Our interdisciplinary teams bring together expertise in public health, social science, data and technology, policy, and community-engaged research. Working with local, national, and global partners, they generate actionable evidence and develop scalable solutions to the root causes of health disparities.

The College of Health’s centers and institutes conduct interdisciplinary research in health equity, Indigenous health, health policy, children’s environmental health, health data science and laboratory-based environmental analysis. Examples include the Institute for Indigenous Studies, Institute of Health Policy & Politics, Children’s Environmental Precision Health Institute, Health Data Warehouse and Health and Environmental Assessment Laboratory. Their work combines public health, social science, policy, technology, advanced data analytics and community-based research to address factors affecting health outside traditional healthcare settings.
Foundations, healthcare systems, government agencies, companies, nonprofits and community organizations can support research through sponsored projects, philanthropic funding, data-sharing initiatives, technical services and collaborative programs. Depending on the project, partners may work with faculty and students to develop studies, test solutions in real-world settings, analyze health data or translate findings into community and clinical practice. Evaluation measures should reflect the goals of each project and may include research publications, community participation, health or behavioral outcomes, policies or practices influenced, technologies and datasets developed, student involvement and progress toward reducing health disparities. Because the centers emphasize interdisciplinary, data-driven and community-based research, grant proposals can establish project-specific milestones, reporting schedules and measures of local, national or global impact. Partners can also support early-stage research designed to produce preliminary evidence for larger grants and sustainable clinical or community benefits.
