January 16, 2026

Lehigh University College of Health Assistant Professor Gideon Gogovi was recently awarded Lehigh University’s Hillman Award for Excellence in Graduate Advising.

Lehigh University College of Health Assistant Professor Gideon Gogovi was recently awarded Lehigh University’s Hillman Award for Excellence in Graduate Advising. Gogovi is a member of the College’s Department of Biostatistics & Health Data Science faculty.

The Hillman Award recognizes an individual nominated by current Lehigh University graduate students for excellence in teaching, research or advancing the interests of Lehigh University. In that context, this award recognizes exemplary graduate student advising defined as either: a) Guiding students through their exploration and pursuit of an academic course of study; or b) Assisting students in the development and/or completion of research related to their degree program. Traditionally the University reserves this award for those who have distinguished themselves through long-term excellence or service to the institution.

Gogovi’s research work specializes on using computer models that connect very small‑scale biology (like molecules in cells) to very large‑scale outcomes (like how whole populations behave or how a disease spreads). He currently teaches courses on Artificial Intelligence in health, population health data, algorithms, health data science, machine learning in health, and data arch, mining and linkage.

On Monday evenings in the Spring 2026 semester, Gogovi will be teaching a new course open to all undergraduate and graduate students at Lehigh titled “Getting Started With AI-Assisted Research” (BSTA 395 / BSTA 495). This course emphasizes the ethical use of AI, critical evaluation of AI outputs, and the responsible integration of AI tools in academic research.
