MPH 4+1 Advising & Onboarding

Eligibility

• Automatic admit: Overall GPA of 3.5 & have completed or will have completed 54 credits at the end of the semester to achieve junior status
• If overall GPA is less than 3.5, your transcript will be reviewed by the Associate Dean to determine eligibility. 
• You are not eligible to start the program until you reach junior status
• Have the capacity to take up to 12 credits of graduate courses and meet still the overall credit requirement for the undergraduate degree (graduate course credit will not count towards your undergrad degree)

Application Process

• Meet with your academic advisor to ensure that the 4+1 is feasible in your schedule. 
  • Please note: you cannot register for more than 18 credits if adding a graduate course.
• Complete the declaration form the semester BEFORE you plan to start the 4+1:

Registration information:

• Your undergraduate advisor will still provide your PIN
• You must register for the in-person section of your graduate courses. 
  • Register for PUBH 401 as your first course by completing an override form
  • The form can be found here: Course Override Form. 
• Fill out the petition to reserve undergraduate credits for the graduate program linked here.  

Tracking your 4+1 

• You should be updating your degree tracking guide each semester
• Follow the suggested schedule. Not following the suggested schedule can delay your +1
• Check your degree audit after every semester!
  • Go to your degree audit.
  • Scroll down to "Exceptions" where you will see a credit increase was applied
  • You can check that your credits have been adjusted at the top of your degree audit as well (ex: overall credits of 120 becomes 123 to include a grad course)
  • Please note this will NOT be added to your degree audit until AFTER you have received a passing grade for the course.

Paying for your 4+1

• Graduate-level MPH courses taken during the undergraduate years are included in undergraduate tuition (no extra charge!)
• Students receive a 30% tuition reduction for the +1 year of full-time graduate study. Students are eligible to receive merit as well.
