Student Experiential Learning: Meet Miranda O’Mara
Last spring and summer, Miranda O’Mara ’24 had the chance to try out something new through her first internship. Working in digital marketing for the College of Health, her paid internship gave her experience in everything from data analytics, to social media content, to strategy.
As a new college, the College of Health was still getting social media and digital marketing off the ground, and O’Mara was one of the first people to work on this. She helped to enhance their social platforms, she said.
She reached out to other schools to research best practices to see what would work for the COH, and got the word out about the college to small companies and communities in the Lehigh Valley. When developing the COH newsletter, Cohesion, O’Mara researched newsletter platforms and pricing options to find the right fit for the college.
All of this experience helped O’Mara, a Population Health major, gain a new perspective into the working world and try out something new. “I honestly really enjoyed it,” she said.
As a part time, flexible, and hybrid opportunity, the marketing internship was a “perfect” starting point for her, learning about the practicalities of working in an office environment. The experience served her well as she prepares to start another internship in healthcare management this summer, a full-time opportunity with Northwell Health in New York.
Before she starts her internship, though, O’Mara will finish out her spring semester studying abroad in Madrid, which has opened her eyes to a new culture and provided her with another experiential learning opportunity.
