Qingyun Zhang is a teaching assistant professor in the College of Health Department of Community and Population Health at College of Health and the Student Mental Health Outreach person at The University Counseling and Psychological Services. Qingyun is a Ph.D. candidate in Counselor Education and Supervision at Pennsylvania State University. His research focuses on the intersection of client identities and counseling outcomes, with a particular emphasis on university counseling centers and international counselor training. His dissertation uses latent profile analysis of the Center for Collegiate Mental Health dataset to explore how client identities impact therapeutic outcomes in a wholistic way within universities. His broader scholarly interests include collective trauma, ethnic socialization, and holistic wellness.

With experience in both clinical and academic settings across the U.S. and China, Qingyun has taught a wide range of courses, including Counseling Internship, Disability Culture, Introduction to Counseling, and Case Management in Clinical Settings, and has co-developed content for Coursera’s top-rated Psychology and Life course. His teaching philosophy is grounded in constructivism, emphasizing student voice, cultural responsiveness, and experiential learning.

As a first-generation college student and an international counselor licensed in U.S., Qingyun is committed to advancing diversity and inclusion in counselor education, research, and practice. He has also contributed to outreach and supervision work in underserved communities, including rural China, West Baltimore, and international student community in Pennsylvania.
